Tau Publishing, LLC began publishing in 2002. We started out publishing Franciscan Books and have expanded into several other product lines since then, including these listed here.
Over the past decade, cottage home bakery regulations across the United States have evolved to make it easier for individuals to turn their passion for baking into a profitable business. Many states have expanded their cottage food laws to allow bakers to sell a wider variety of homemade goods, increase annual sales limits, and sell through more venues, including farmers’ markets, online platforms, and even direct shipping in some areas. These changes have reduced barriers like expensive commercial kitchen requirements and complex licensing, allowing home-based bakers to test products, grow their customer base, and build sustainable businesses from their own kitchens. As a result, more people are transforming their love of baking into thriving ventures while staying compliant with state guidelines.
Home and Hearth Press was created with one simple goal: to help aspiring bakers turn their love of baking into a thriving business by making sense of the rules that can often feel overwhelming. As more states began easing and expanding their cottage food laws, we saw an opportunity to support people who wanted to start their own home-based bakeries but didn’t know where to begin.
Many talented bakers struggle to navigate state-specific regulations—figuring out what can be sold, where they can sell, and how to properly label and package their products. We realized that while the opportunity was there, the guidance was not always easy to find or understand. That’s why we decided to create a clear, step-by-step guide tailored to each state’s requirements, written in plain language so anyone can follow it.
At Home and Hearth Press, we believe that with the right tools, anyone can turn a home kitchen into a successful cottage bakery. Our books walk readers through every stage of the process—from registering their business and meeting state requirements to marketing, packaging, and building a loyal customer base—so they can confidently start selling their baked goods and grow their dream into a reality.
